Growing up, my sister was a gymnast and I was a dancer, and so my dad made what amounted to a studio in our basement — with wooden floors and a huge mirrored wall. This was all the encouragement we needed to spend our time after school making up routines, performing for a bulky VHS recorder, and playing back the tape for our parents and relatives.
And so my musical tastes developed.
